FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a freight broker, and what does SET Logistics do?

SET Logistics is a licensed third-party logistics provider (3PL) based in Birmingham, Alabama. We move our customers’ commercial freight by utilizing our vast network of contracted third-party motor carriers. SET provides our customers a single point of contact who arranges the entire move. Customers benefit from the capacity of a nationwide carrier network, without the hassle or risk of screening carriers or dispatching loads themselves.

Is SET Logistics a licensed and bonded broker?

Yes. SET operates under active FMCSA broker authority and carries the federally required $75,000 surety bond (BMC-84). Ask us for our MC number and bond details anytime. We’ll send them same day, and we’d encourage you to verify any broker you work with the same way.

How do I get a freight quote?

Submit the quote request form on this page or call (205) 849-6309 with origin, destination, commodity, weight, dimensions, and pickup date. Standard lanes are typically quoted the same business day.

What's the difference between using a broker and an asset-based carrier?

An asset carrier can only offer the trucks it owns, and only when they are available. As a nimble, non-asset 3PL, SET matches each load to the right equipment from a vetted network, available when you need it: flatbed, step-deck, RGN, van, or reefer. Instead of forcing your freight onto whatever’s in one fleet, one relationship covers every trailer type and lane.

How does SET vet its carriers and drivers?

SET uses multiple cutting-edge software systems and private peer networking groups to continuously vet carrier legal compliance, operations and safety records, and active insurance in real time, along with biometric verification of driver identity. The process is designed to deliver safety, prevent fraud, and ensure that your load arrives without issue every time.

What cargo insurance applies to my shipment?

SET requires each of its contracted motor carriers to maintain broad-form, all-risk Cargo insurance on every load, with limits of at least $100,000. Additionally, SET maintains its own Shippers Interest Cargo coverage for the full value of every load, up to $2 million each. Extra coverage can be easily arranged if needed for special shipments.

What happens if my freight is damaged in transit?

Note it on the delivery receipt, document it with photos, and contact your SET representative right away. We’ll manage the claim for you, and walk you through the process to resolution. Fast, well-documented notice is the biggest factor in a smooth claim.

Can I track my shipment in real time?

Yes. THe SET customer portal provides GPS tracking plus access to your invoices, BOLs, and PODs in one place, and our team monitors every load alongside you.

What if my shipment is oversized or needs permits?

That’s our everyday freight. We handle oversize and overweight loads on flatbed, step-deck, and RGN trailers, oversee routine state permit issuance, and help arrange escorts and route planning when a load calls for them.

How fast can SET cover a load?

For standard truckload freight in our core lanes, SET can typically assign a truck the same day, subject to market capacity. Expedited options are available when the delivery date can’t move.

If SET has payment issues with a carrier, am I exposed?

No. And this is a fair question to ask any freight broker. SET’s contracts with carriers clearly specify that SET is the only party responsible for their payment, and SET’s broker surety bond and authority are publicly verifiable through FMCSA records. We are happy to provide payment references and our credit rating upon request.

Do I get a dedicated contact, or a call center?

SET provides our customers one dedicated contact who knows your name, your freight, your lanes, and your receivers, reachable 24/7/365.

Is there a minimum shipment size?

No. SET can arrange LTL partial loads all the way through full truckload and multi-load project freight. If it needs a truck, we can price it.

What does "SET it & Forget it" mean for me?

SET delivers peace of mind. From the moment a customer assigns a load to SET, we handle everything else: carrier sourcing, permit acquisition, tracking, paperwork, and problem resolution, and we keep you informed proactively the whole way.
